The second generation of the HMMV featured a more aerodynamic body, lighter but stronger ceramet armor to replace the steel, a better engine.  It replaced the original HMMV in 2005, and was replaced itself by the GMI warthog last year.   Many are still in use by US military forces, and there is currently a petition going to keep them in production.  While the Warthog is faster, better armored and able to serve the same variety of roles, it lacks protection for passengers by not having doors, which has raised a bit of contention from troops and officers alike.  Still surplus sales have been high, and Mexico has officially adopted the HMMV-II as their primary vehicle for both Mexican Police and Military duties.  Civilians can by unarmed versions for 20,000eb.
